How Brakes Work
Energy builds up when your car is on the move. For the car to stop, that energy has to convert into heat by friction. By pressing on the brake pedal, it activates a lever that pushes a piston into the master cylinder. In a Frictional-Hydraulic brake system, the master cylinder is full of hydraulic fluid that sprays over a network of pipes and other cylinders that are beside the brakes on each wheel. This process creates pressure. With enough force, the heat resistant brake pads push against the calipers that put pressure on the rotors. The rotors slow the tires down and eventually bring the car to a stop. In electromagnetic systems, a motor provides power to electromagnets on each side of the disc rotors that cause the vehicle to stop. In most hybrid vehicles, the electric motor that powers the car is the same motor that stops the car. In either situation, each component or function leads to another, making it necessary for these parts to all be in excellent working condition. Come have your brakes perfected by the professionals at Mecklenburg Automotive.
